Just caught an advert for this in my feed elsewhere.

This thing is surreal. Only 350 bucks and 3-8 bucks a month forever, and you can... have a plate. But only in CA or AZ.

This thing clearly is for the tech bros who have a lot of fuck you money from an IPO and want to show it off in a way that doesn’t involve a website or sharing social media.

I did want a way to tactfully communicate with my fellow commuters on a trip for various reasons, but not like this. Not like this.

Don’t forget to add the $99 optional “white glove” installation!

This is only inviting random passersby to hack it, steal steal registration data, or simply kick it off the car for shits and giggles.

This felt extremely stupid to me (and mainly like an attempt to eventually force people into getting an expensive plate because it would save the DMV a tiny amount of money).

Arstechnica did a review last summer:  Would you pay $700, plus a monthly fee, for a digital license plate?
